BORGONARI E LA QUERCIA
Where a passion for wine and Piëmonte come together!
Roccaverano, the highest village in southern Piëmonte, is located in the mountains of Monferrato.
It is a beautiful, varied area with forests, nut fields, meadows and panoramic views.
Until a few years ago, it was unlikely that good wines could be made in this area.
There were a few small vineyards where wine was made in the traditional way for personal consumption.
However, eight years ago, two passionate couples, one Dutch and the other Italian, independently planted vineyards here. They dared to experiment and investigate what was possible at an altitude of 600 metres.
Initially, they were viewed with some pity, as if they really did not understand anything and were unfamiliar with the history of the area. These two couples, Susanna and Mirko, and Hetty and Jacob, found each other and joined forces. They now produce the only and unique wines of Roccaverano in their own winery.
Six hectares of vineyards have now been planted with varieties such as Chardonnay, Pinot Nero and now Riesling.
White wines, rosé and red wines are produced, as well as some very good sparkling wines.
The village is now proud of the beautiful quality wines which, together with Robiola, the famous goat’s cheese from Roccaverano, are sold in the local shop and served in restaurants in the area!
