Our passion for wine
Borgonari
Susanna | Mirko
Mirko Nari and Susanna Poggio, both trained engineers, have cultivated an interest and passion for wine production for many years. They had been renting vineyards for some time
to produce wine from their own harvest.
This is how they began to make a name for themselves with their label, Borgonari. When, in 2017, they had the opportunity to plant vineyards on Susanna’s grandmother’s farm in Roccaverano, a long-cherished dream came true.
The local community had to get used to the idea that people from the city, without much experience, had embarked on this adventure. In recent years, the wine estate has expanded further and now covers around 4 hectares of vineyards. The desire is to reduce the normal daily office work and finally become winegrowers with a beautiful farmhouse to offer tourists an unforgettable stay in Roccaverano with delicious food and excellent wines of their own production.
In recent years, this dream has gained momentum. Thanks to the collaboration with La Quercia, it has been possible to build their own winery ahead of schedule and share knowledge and experience. With our different backgrounds and qualities, we can help each other in the vineyards and in the winery. In this way, we inspire each other to produce the best wines.
La Quercia
Hetty | Jacob
Hetty and Jacob Eikelboom have been coming to Roccaverano for over 20 years and have a wonderful place of their own there. Hetty is an engineer and Jacob is mainly a crisis manager in the Netherlands. After high school, Jacob wanted to attend viticulture school, but nothing came of it.
Fifteen years ago, however, his childhood dream began to resurface. In Italy, he found a winegrower who allowed him to do an internship and learn the trade. In 2016, he began experimenting with a small vineyard on his own land. The peculiarity was that this land is located at an altitude of 600 metres, and at the time there was no viticulture in southern Piedmont at that altitude.
The neighbours found it strange that this Dutchman had decided to do such a thing. Of course, he had studied carefully and researched the grape varieties suitable for this environment. The experiment was successful and several vineyards have since been planted.
A few years ago, he met Hetty and Jacob Borgonari. Mirko and Susanna had embarked on a similar adventure at almost the same time. We were able to learn a lot from each other’s experiences and also from the mistakes we made. Now that we are fully collaborating, we can join forces to present the unique, high-quality wines of Roccaverano.
We are very proud to be able to do this together and to help each other realise our dreams.
Winemaker
Luca Voglino
My name is Luca Voglino and I have been a winemaker for over 30 years. I have always had a great passion for wine.
The main focus of my work is quality. For me, quality means that the wines we produce reflect the terroir they come from in every way. Only the highest quality wineries achieve this result. Wine thus becomes a product and an experience of completeness and respect for what man, with seriousness and dedication, has managed to obtain from the land under the given conditions.
With Borgonari and La Quercia, an excellent synergy was immediately created, because we all want to produce only good quality wines, the result of serious, competent and careful work.
After thirty years, it is a very special situation for me to be able to participate from the very beginning
in the creation of this new winery. Here I can put my knowledge and experience to good use and pass it on in full. This is how we produce the unique and unrepeatable wines of Roccaverano.
Winery
Everything starts with the terroir, the soil type, the location of the vineyards, and the choice of varieties that can thrive in these higher altitudes.
Careful and ecological viticulture is also important for the growth of the plants and grapes.
